Speaking · Mike Minogue, P.Eng., MBA

Operations,
In Plain Terms.

25+ years of senior operations leadership across manufacturing, technology, and services — at the $100M–$500M revenue scale. I speak about what actually breaks as a business grows, how to see it coming, and what to do about it before it becomes a crisis.

Speaking topics

Six things I can talk about with real depth.

Topic 01
Operational discipline while scaling
Most businesses don't fail because they stop growing — they fail because growth outruns the systems meant to support it. What breaks first, in what order, and how to catch it before it becomes a crisis. This is the talk I've built out most thoroughly.
Topic 02
Fractional vs. permanent leadership
When a fractional or interim executive genuinely makes sense, when a permanent hire is the right answer, and when neither is what the business actually needs. Practical, not a sales pitch for either.
Topic 03
Growing a dealer or distributor business
The same operational framework, applied to the dealer and distributor model specifically — installed base, service revenue, and the repeat business most of these companies never systematically pursue.
Topic 04
Post-acquisition integration
The part after the deal closes that nobody budgets enough time for. Integration, culture, systems, and making the numbers work — from someone who has done it rather than advised on it.
Topic 05
Building software as a non-software company
How a small operating business actually gets its own tools built — what's realistic, where it goes wrong, and why the useful projects start with a problem you already have rather than a technology you want to use. Not a talk about monetizing software.
Topic 06
AI, from an operator's perspective
The tools aren't interchangeable. It's a calculator, not an accountant — you still need to know the work to catch a wrong answer. "We should be using AI" isn't a plan. And the risk nobody's thinking about: pasting confidential company information into a public chatbot may put you offside your own NDA.

What I can speak to concretely

Beyond general operations experience: I run a Kindle Direct Publishing catalogue across five pen names, and took blended ACOS from 101% to 58.5% over three months by applying an operational routine to advertising. I can talk through exactly what that routine was and what the numbers did — useful for author and small-business audiences alike.
